Set in Philadelphia we are presented with a gentle portrait of an upper-class family eventually torn apart by tragedy. Clarise, the heroin in this story is a nurturing strong woman who was raised by her two aunts and uncles who were brothers and sisters.

Authors deBerry and Grant trace the friendship of Patricia Reid and Gayle Saunders, who meet as children, grow up and grow apart while learning about life, love, lies and finally, the importance of sustaining friendships. The book also tells us that mistakes are a part of life.
